Elizabeth Lyons

I am the inaugural holder of the Don and Stacy Rosenberg Professorship in Innovation and an Associate Professor of Management at UC San Diego's School of Global Policy and Strategy. My research is focused on how innovation happens: how new technologies are commercialized and adopted, how digitization and AI are changing work and learning, and how incentives, coordination barriers, and inequality determine who innovates and who benefits. I am a Kauffman Junior Faculty Fellowship in Entrepreneurship Research award winner and a UC San Diego Graduate and Professional Student Association Faculty Teaching Award winner.

I also build and support programs that drive innovation and technology adoption. I direct the Wavemaker Lab, which trains founders and supports early-stage ventures, and co-lead the Poseidon Fellows fellowship for students across campus who want to build or back high-impact companies. Through the Lab for Emerging Intelligence, I am helping to build and deploy the SmartLearning Hub, an instructor-centered AI tutoring platform currently being piloted in community college, university, and high school courses.
